Eric Michil Lucas
July 6, 1979 - October 4, 2021
Eric Michil Lucas was born in Portland on July 6, 1979, and died of undiagnosed heart failure on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 42 years old. He was the only child of Dave and Sharon Lucas, Wilsonville. Eric loved his family, cousins and close friends, especially his 20-year friendship with Cole and Amy Roffman and their 10-year-old daughter Ava. He would call family members almost weekly, acting as a friend, mentor and teacher to his younger cousins Chad and Trent. Eric loved to give the greatest hugs. He was always the first to offer help and the last to take any compensation other than hearing people’s appreciation. When asked to help paint a room or build something, he’d often ask if you want home-owner quality or apartment rental quality – he only provided apartment level. He had a brilliant mind and was often called “Eric-ipedia” with his broad knowledge on every topic. He loved learning about and creating artwork, playing his guitars and keyboard. Had the biggest collection of books and record albums, knowing the lyrics to more than 1,500 songs. Loved reading the Sunday New York Times and Wall Street Journal. He could spend hours talking about philosophers and sharing their and his own philosophies, politics and science. Eric frequently wrote his thoughts and experience in journals. He would often take photos of ponds, landscape and pioneer cemeteries. Played disc-golf almost every weekend. His favorite vacations were Chaco Canyon and the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta where we rode in a hot air balloon for about 7 miles. He went twice to Washington DC and loved the Newseum with Sharon. We visited the Chihuly Museum in Seattle. We had planned to go to Philadelphia in 2022. Eric lived a simple life where material things were unimportant. Love, friendship, discussions and hugs were what he cherished most. Most of his career was as a property manager at multiple apartment complexes and became close with Lon Sandefur, the property owner. He loved being able to figure out how to repair or rebuild something in the apartments. He was a documentation specialist at Freightliner – Daimler North America, working with his mom, Sharon. Eric also worked for a few years in the Nike Distribution Center. Eric graduated from Tualatin High School and received his associated degree from Portland Community College. Eric’s grave-side service is 2:00 Tuesday, October 12th, at Fernwood Pioneer Cemetery at 500 South Everest Road, Newberg, Oregon. Viewing is from noon to 1:00 pm at Cornwell Wilsonville Funeral Chapel at 29222 SW Town Center Loop East, Wilsonville, OR 97070. A gathering after the service will be 3:30 to 6:00 pm at his parents’ home at 32116 SW Willamette Way E., Wilsonville, OR 97070.
