    Mary Caroline McNulty

    August 12, 1921 - January 19, 2021

Mary Caroline McNulty was born August 12, 1921, in Rushville, Nebraska to Sylvester E. and Margaret Vifquain and lived to the age of 99. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings. Her remaining sister, Josephine Turner, resides in Gresham, Oregon. Her parents farmed in Nebraska raising potatoes, grain, and livestock. Recalling her youth, Mary would speak of harsh winters and riding her pony, two-bit to school each day. Due to the combination of the Great Depression and the dust bowl, the Vifquains moved to Woodburn in 1936 while Mary stayed behind and finished the class year at St. Mary’s Boarding Academy in O’Neill Nebraska where four of her cousins also attended and then followed the family to Oregon. Mary graduated from Woodburn High School in 1939 and then attended Mt. Angel College where she earned her associate degree in secretarial skills. Mary married Jim McNulty in 1946. Jim passed in 1982. Children: Lee (Patty) McNulty, Pat (Ted) Mack, Linda (Greg) Bachand, Mike (Dolores) McNulty, Paula McNulty, and Alice (Scott) Gascho. Mary had 13 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mary gifted all grandchildren monies to help with college. All attended. Mary and Jim bought a farm outside Hubbard, Oregon in 1950, raising livestock, crops, and their family. Mary also worked as a secretary for the State of Oregon, McLaren School, and many years at North Marion Elementary School. Mary lived her final years in Woodburn, Oregon: 17 years in Senior Estates and last three years at Emerald Gardens. Mary was a member of St. Agnes, St. Luke Parish, and St. Monica’s Circle. Mary will be dearly missed by her family.
