Virgene Ann Waltner
July 5, 1927 - August 17, 2020
Virgene Ann Waltner, age 93, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2020 at her daughter Becky and Terry Woolbright’s home in Aloha, Oregon. She was born on July 5th, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Leoda and Cletha Turk. She always said she was a “delayed firecracker” having been born one day after the fourth of July. Virgene was raised with one brother in the Seattle, Washington area. While in high school she went to church with a friend and there accepted Jesus Christ as her savior. The church offered to pay her first year of bible college if she wanted to enroll. It was while attending Simpson Bible College that she met the class clown, Harold Joseph Waltner whom she married in 1949. Virgene spent her life caring for others. Along with raising eight children, she was also a supportive pastor’s wife and worked as a caregiver at Emmanuel Hospital and various nursing homes. She enjoyed baking, canning, quilting and working in her yard flowers. Especially in her “senior years” she enjoyed putting together puzzles and the conversation with those who sat with her. Virgene is preceded in death by her parents, Leoda and Cletha Turk, her brother Richard Turk, her husband Harold Waltner of 65 years and two sons, Jonathan Waltner and Thomas Waltner. She is survived by her remaining six children, Steve and wife Idalou Waltner, David and wife Chalene Waltner, Becky and husband Terry Woolbright, Judy and husband Phil Gaboury, James and wife Patty Waltner and Phillip and wife Pattie Waltner. She also has over 65 grand and great grand children and more nieces and nephews than she could remember. Although she will be greatly missed we are thankful that she is pain free and rejoicing in the presence of Jesus.
