    Virginia Marie McClure

    July 29, 1924 - May 22, 2022

KEIZER - On July 29, 1924, twins Virginia Marie and Clementine Marie were born in Woodburn, OR to John and Elizabeth Kirsch. The doctor delivered the babies at home and immediately sent their older brother Ed to get the priest. He said the twins were not going to live. He wrapped them up and placed them in cotton lined shoe boxes and placed them in the wood stove warming oven. But happily they did live and joined their brothers and sister Victor, Marie, Edmund, Joseph and Sylvester. The twins were inseparable as they grew. They dressed alike and went to grade school at St. Luke’s in Woodburn. After graduating from Woodburn High School, the girls got jobs, met the love of their lives, and married. Marriage separated the twins physically but never in any other way. Virginia met and married a handsome Woodburn man, Oliver M. (Mickey) McClure. Mickey taught grade school and Virginia worked for 1st National Bank of Oregon which became 1st Interstate Bank of Oregon during her years of service. Virginia had retired from banking prior to the merger with Wells Fargo Bank. Virginia and Mickey were also founding members of St Edward Catholic Church in Keizer. Micky and Virgie they never were blessed with children, but made a difference in the lives of many. After Mickey’s death, Virginia was named Volunteer of the Week by the Statesman Journal on September 11, 1991. She volunteered at Cummings Elementary School, St. Francis Conference’s Deveraux Apartments, St. Vincent de Paul Society and St. Edward Catholic Church. For the work developing the Deveraux Apartments, the group was made one of George Bush’s 10,000 Points of Light. Virginia and a friend represented the group at a celebration at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. Virginia died Sunday May 22, 2022 in Salem, OR at the age of 97. She is survived by nieces Lisa Anderson (Terry Mosgrove), Susan Buzzard (Tony), nephews John Anderson(Jean), Rick Anderson (Chihiro) and Joe Anderson (Shannon), great nephews Pat Buzzard, Chris Buzzard, Joe Anderson and great nieces Morgan Andvik, Rachel Anderson and Emily Anderson. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St Edward Catholic Church on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn OR.
